The Construction Code Division is responsible for assuring compliance with the New Jersey Uniform Construction Code. We provide construction permit review and inspection services for Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Mechanical & Fire Protection systems during new construction and rehabilitation of existing structures. 

CONSTRUCTION PERMIT GUIDES

Here you will find some helpful guides and information regarding how to and when to obtain permits. There are guides for different project types as well as general residential and commercial projects. Each guide provides a link to the required construction permit forms.

CONSTRUCTION PERMIT FORMS

Use the Construction Permit Forms button to access the NJ Uniform Construction Code forms. These standard forms can be used in any municipality in NJ, and they are PDF fillable.

INSPECTIONS

Every permit issued requires inspections. Use the button for a list of required inspections and our inspections procedures.

Inspections can be requested online through the SDL Portal 24/7 using the Schedule an Inspection button, or by calling 908-204-3172 Monday – Friday between 7:30am and 3:00pm.

Inspections are performed Monday - Friday between 8:00am-2:00pm, and Tuesday and Wednesday 3:00pm-5:00pm for certain work types. You can choose a timeframe of 8:00am-11:00am or 11:00am-2:00pm Monday-Friday or 3:00pm-5:00pm Tuesday and Wednesday. Same day inspections are not available.

Use the Construction Permit Search button to search online for permit records on a property. A portal account is required. Signing up is easy and FREE.

SELLING OR RENTING YOUR HOME

Bernards Township requires a Construction Records Clearance for all property sales in addition to the Smoke Detector/Carbon Monoxide/Fire Extinguisher Certificate from the Fire Prevention Bureau for sales and rentals. There is no Certificate of Occupancy required for a sale or rental. Click the Selling or Renting Your Home button for the applications.
