On April 26th, 2008, Bernards Township Shade Tree Commissioners planted five trees in celebration of Arbor Day at Bernards Township Dog Park located on South Maple Avenue in Basking Ridge.  The site was selected to provide shade and beautification to the Dog Park for residents to enjoy. Randy Santoro, Chairperson of the Shade Tree Commission, read the proclamation passed by the Township Committee declaring April 26, 2008 as Arbor Day.

Bernards Township has been awarded a Tree City USA town for the second year in a row by the National Arbor Day Foundation.  Trees increase property values, enhance the economic vitality of business areas and beautify the community.  Most importantly, the resolution calls for all citizens to plant trees to “gladden hearts and promote the well-being of present and future generations.”

The Bernards Township Shade Tree Commission is dedicated to increasing tree inventory in Town by planting over 60 trees per year.  The Commissioners assist with maintenance and landscaping projects in the public areas of the Town.  They also educate the public about trees and their importance to the community.  To learn more or to contact the Shade Tree Commission, visit the Bernard’s Township website at Uwww.bernards.orgU.

The Accreditation Award Designation recognizes the professionalism and excellence of the Bernards Township Police Department.  Enclosed is my press release.  I believe all members of the Township Committee will receive a letter advising them of our Accreditation Award recognition and designation.
