Minutes of the Meeting of the Board of Trustees

of the Bernards Township Library

April 15, 2009

 

 

1.      CALL TO ORDER

President Joan Graff called the meeting to order at 7:37 p.m. in the Bernards Township Library Lower Level Conference Room.

 

2.      SUNSHINE LAW REMINDER

In accordance with the requirements of the Open Public Meetings Law of 1975, notice of the meeting was posted on the bulletin board in the Reception Hall of the Municipal Building, Collyer Lane, Basking Ridge and the Bernards Township Library Public Notices bulletin board; was mailed to The Bernardsville News, Bernardsville; was filed with the Township Clerk; and was posted on both the Township’s website and the Library’s website.

 

3.      ROLL CALL

Present:  Lois Bloom, Paul Bryan, Joan Graff, Carolyn Kelly, Rima Khalil, Mary Jane McNally, Tim Opremcak, Tracy Redling, Marie Schelfaut

Absent: 

Also Present:  Anne Meany

 

4.      PUBLIC COMMENT

There were no members of the public present.

 

5.      APPROVAL OF MINUTES

MOTION 09-09 was made by Tim Opremcak and seconded by Rima Khalil to approve the minutes of the March 11, 2009 meeting as written.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

6.      PRESIDENT’S REPORT

·         Ms Graff reminded members about the Morris Union Federation of Libraries MUF dinner May 6.

 

7.      DIRECTOR’S REPORT

·         Ms Meany reported that the State Statistical Report that qualifies the Library for State Aid has been filed.  The check will probably arrive in October.

·         The NJLA Conference will be in Long Branch at the end of the month.  Library staff will not stay overnight, but will commute in a township car.

·         Township Administrator Bruce McArthur has raised the issue of charging rent for the program room.

·         Marie Schelfaut will be attending the NJLA Trustee Institute early in May.

·         The Library has been named in the will of Dr. Warren Hull

·         VITA completed yesterday.  Ed Gould has offered to do a program on tax preparation.

·         Ms Meany distributed a revised Internet Use policy for the Board to consider.  This version updates titles published by state and National professional organizations to reflect current publications.   MOTION 09-10 was made by Mary Jane McNally and seconded by Lois Bloom to accept the revised policy.  The motion passed unanimously.

·         Snapshot Day results have been posted to the State Library’s website.  Snapshot Day was organized by the State Library to document library use throughout the state on a typical day. 

 

8.      COMMITTEE REPORTS

A.     Treasurer/Finance—Lois Bloom

Approximately $325, 000 will be left from the 2008 budget.  The 2009 budget has been introduced and will probably be approved in May.

 

B.   Friends of the Library Liaison—

Tracy Redling will attend the Friends’ next meeting, which will be in May. 

 

C.  Land and Building—Rima Khalil

Problems with both the door and the back steps have been fixed.

 

D.  Legislation—Mary Jane McNally

No report.

 

E.   Long Range Planning—Paul Bryan

Paul will continue to explore library services to gain a better understanding of  them.

 

F.   Personnel—Joan Graff

No report.

 

G.  Policy—Joan Graff

Included in the Director’s report.

 

H.  Programming—Joan Graff.

I.    Township Committee Liaison—Carolyn Kelly

11.  ADJOURNMENT

·         MOTION 09-11 was made by Lois Bloom and seconded by Rima Khalil to adjourn the meeting at 8:30 p.m.  The motion carried unanimously.

·         The next meeting of the Bernards Township Library Board of Trustees will be 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2009 in the Lower Level Conference Room of the Library.
