SUNSHINE LAW REMINDER
In accordance with the requirements of the Open Public
Meetings Law of 1975, notice of the meeting was posted on the bulletin board in
the Reception Hall of the Municipal Building, Collyer Lane, Basking Ridge and
the Bernards Township Library Public Notices bulletin board; was mailed to The Bernardsville News, Bernardsville;
was filed with the Township Clerk; and was posted on both the Township’s
website and the Library’s website.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
MOTION 08-24 was made by Rima Khalil and seconded
by Marie Schelfaut to approve the minutes of the June 25, 2008 meeting as written. The motion carried unanimously.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
No report.

DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Ms Meany read request by a parent to use the Library
program room for Moms Club meetings. Ms
Meany’s reply to the mother was to check with the Community Center and the Y.

Ms
Meany invited Board members to read the book reviews created by children this
summer and posted in the library.

Supervising
Reference Librarian Ruth Lufkin made a presentation on genealogy resources to a
group at the
·
As part of the requirements for her Gold Award,
local Girl Scout Shannon McNamara organized a book drive to collect books that
would be donated to
·

Phyllis McGuinness presented an overview of Leisure
Learning. She discussed the history of
the program, current status, registration procedures, local participation, and
parking. She presented both long term
and short term solutions that had been considered as solutions to the problems
presented by the large attendance and the lack of nearby parking. The Board expressed its support of and pride
in the Leisure Learning program. It
affirmed its support of the direction in which Ms McGuinness has steered the Leisure
Learning programming as well as her efforts to encourage participation by
Township residents. Better signage and
personal appeals by Leisure Learning staff are two methods by which the Library
hopes to smooth the parking issue. Other
long-term solutions are being considered.

B. Friends
of the Library Liaison—Wilma Harner
The Friends have $20,000 in a CD. Recently, they have funded Magic and Monsters
for Halloween, a program for reluctant readers; and purchased assisted listening
devices.
C. Land
and Building—Rima Khalil
Ms Khalil reported that work on the roof is progressing well
and will be completed by next week.
D. Legislation—Mary
Jane McNally
Although Gov. Corzine recommended a 10% cut in the State Per
Capita Aid Program, 2% of the cut was restored in the final budget.

OLD BUSINESS
There was no old business.
10. NEW BUSINESS

Ms
Graff read a letter she received concerning the Library’s programs and services
for senior citizens and participation by local senior citizens in Leisure
Learning. The Board affirmed that Ms McGuinness
is doing a fine job of developing programming that would appeal to
seniors. Discussion of Leisure Learning
was included in the Director’s Report.
