Minutes of the Meeting of the Board of Trustees

of the Bernards Township Library

May 28, 2008

 

 

1.      CALL TO ORDER

President Joan Graff called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. in the Bernards Township Library Lower Level Conference Room.

 

 

2.      SUNSHINE LAW REMINDER

In accordance with the requirements of the Open Public Meetings Law of 1975, notice of the meeting was posted on the bulletin board in the Reception Hall of the Municipal Building, Collyer Lane, Basking Ridge and the Bernards Township Library Public Notices bulletin board; was mailed to The Bernardsville News, Bernardsville; was filed with the Township Clerk; and was posted on both the Township’s website and the Library’s website.

 

 

3.      ROLL CALL

Present:  Lois Bloom, Joan Graff, Wilma Harner, Rima Khalil, John Malay, Mary Jane McNally, Tim Opremcak, Tracy Redling, Marie Schelfaut

 

 

4.      PUBLIC COMMENT

There were no members of the public present

 

 

5.      APPROVAL OF MINUTES

MOTION 08-20 was made by Lois Bloom and seconded by Rima Khalil to approve the minutes of the April 30, 2008 meeting as written.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

 

6.      PRESIDENT’S REPORT

·         The Morris-Union Federation (MUF) dinner May 7, 2008 was enjoyable and informative as always.  Several trustees and Anne Meany attended.

·         The Children’s Librarian position, which became vacant when Ellen Stork was promoted to Supervising Librarian in Children’s Services, has been posted.

·         Ms Meany clarified that the Library does pay a FIOS charge for a static IP address for database access.

·         Ms Meany said that the Library will hold off purchasing a self-checkout device for the Children’s Library.


 

7.      DIRECTOR’S REPORT

·         Two local libraries, Bernardsville and Long Hill Township, are joining MUF.  They will become active members as soon as the paperwork clears.

·         Rima Khalil will meet tomorrow with the architect; the roofer, and Director of Public Works Pat Monaco to discuss specifics of the roofing project.  The roofer projects that the air conditioning will be off for one-month.

·         Ms Meany announced that a new service, Library Elf, will be added to the Library’s web site.  Library Elf will notify library clients before an item is due or when an item needs to be picked up.

 

 

8.      COMMITTEE REPORTS

A.     Treasurer/Finance—Lois Bloom

Spending of the 2008 temporary allocation is proceeding normally while the final budget figures are being developed.

 

B.   Friends of the Library Liaison—Wilma Harner

The Friends’ Charter Day table was well attended.  There was a particularly good response to the basket raffles.

 

C.  Land and Building—Rima Khalil

·         Carpet cleaning is being scaled back to once a year, but some areas may need more frequent attention.

·         Re-roofing items are covered in the Director’s report.

 

D.  Legislation—Mary Jane McNally

No report.

 

E.   Personnel—Joan Graff and Tim Opremcak

F    Policy—Joan Graff

G.  Programming—Joan Graff

No report.

 

H.  Technology—Mary Jane McNally

No report

 

I.    Township Committee Liaison—John Malay

·         The Township Committee approved the money for the roofing project.

·         The Township Committee passed a Commendation for Jonathan Green because of his actions during the recent fire in the Library parking lot.

 

 


 

9.      OLD BUSINESS

·         Library Planning Update.  Lois Bloom and Anne Meany will meet during the summer to develop a long-range plan for capital improvements.

·         Let John Malay know when the roof will go forward

 

10.  NEW BUSINESS

There was no New Business.

 

11.  ADJOURNMENT

·         MOTION 08-21   was made by John Malay and seconded by Lois Bloom to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m.  The motion carried unanimously.

·         The next meeting of the Bernards Township Library Board of Trustees will be 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2008 in the Lower Level Conference Room of the Library.
