Minutes of the Meeting of the Board of Trustees

of the Bernards Township Library

March 26, 2008

 

 

1.      CALL TO ORDER

President Joan Graff called the meeting to order at 7:32 p.m. in the Bernards Township Library Program Room A.

 

 

2.      SUNSHINE LAW REMINDER

In accordance with the requirements of the Open Public Meetings Law of 1975, notice of the meeting was posted on the bulletin board in the Reception Hall of the Municipal Building, Collyer Lane, Basking Ridge and the Bernards Township Library Public Notices bulletin board; was mailed to The Bernardsville News, Bernardsville; was filed with the Township Clerk; and was posted on both the Township’s website and the Library’s website.

 

 

3.      ROLL CALL

Present:  Lois Bloom, Joan Graff, Rima Khalil, Mary Jane McNally, Tracy Redling, Marie Schelfaut

Absent:  Wilma Harner, John Malay and Tim Opremcak

 

 

4.      PUBLIC COMMENT

Richard Fiander, 48 North Maple Avenue spoke for five minutes.

 

 

5.      APPROVAL OF MINUTES

MOTION 08-11 was made by Rima Khalil and seconded by Lois Bloom to approve the minutes of the February 27, 2008 meeting as written.  The motion carried unanimously.

 

 

6.      PRESIDENT’S REPORT

No report.

 

 

7.      DIRECTOR’S REPORT

·         Ms Meany reported on the New Jersey Library Trustee Association trustee training session at Long Hill Township March 25.  The speaker focused on the roles and responsibilities of trustees.

·         Ms Meany updated the Board on the Children’s Library and the search for a new Supervising Librarian of Children’s Services to replace Antonette D’Orazio.

·         The MAIN library directors discussed services extended to courtesy card holders.

·         The Library continues to work with the Township to resolve Leisure Learning parking and traffic control issues

·         The motorized book truck for Ridge Oak has been ordered.

 

 

8.      COMMITTEE REPORTS

A.     Treasurer/Finance—Lois Bloom

Spending of the 2008 temporary allocation is proceeding normally while the final figures are being developed.

 

B.   Friends of the Library Liaison—Wilma Harner

No report

 

C.  Land and Building—Rima Khalil

Bids for work on the roof will be opened April 2.  The hope is for the Township Committee to award a contract soon afterward.

 

D.  Legislation—Mary Jane McNally

Ms McNally distributed an update on how the FY 09 New Jersey state budget and pending legislation would affect library funding.

 

E.   Personnel—Joan Graff

Ms Graff conducted Antonette D’Orazio’s exit interview.

 

F    Policy—Joan Graff

Ms Graff distributed two draft policies for the board to consider and possibly bring up for a vote.  These draft policies relate to planned continuous improvement and staff disciplinary action.

 

G.  Programming—Joan Graff

·         Ms Graff commented on Board member Rima Khalil’s participation in the recent children’s story time for 3 and 4 year olds.

·         Ms Meany called the Board’s attention to the Dog Whisperer of Basking Ridge program that will take place at the Library Saturday, April 26.

 

H.  Technology—Mary Jane McNally

Ryan McCloskey and Marcia Lubansky are investigating the possibility of having Verizon FIOS run the MAIN computers.  It is hoped that FIOS would replace the T-1 line which has become too slow.

 

I.    Township Committee Liaison—John Malay

·         Ms Meany reported that the customer service survey forms that John Carpenter has requested will be delivered to the library.

·         The Township will be doing two customer service workshops for employees.

 

 

9.      OLD BUSINESS

There was no old business

 

 

10.  NEW BUSINESS

The annual MUF dinner will be May 7.  Reservation forms should be returned to Anne by early April.

 

 

11.  ADJOURNMENT

·         MOTION 08-12 was made by Lois Bloom and seconded by Rima Khalil to adjourn the meeting at 8:24 p.m.  The motion carried unanimously.

·         The next meeting of the Bernards Township Library Board of Trustees will be 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2008 in the Lower Level Conference Room of the Library.
