Municipal Court
The mission of the Municipal Court is to provide for independent, fair and impartial administration of justice in a timely and efficient manner.
The department is comprised of the Judge, appointed for a three-year term, the Court Administrator and two Deputy Court Administrators.
The Municipal Court operates under the rules and laws promulgated by the New Jersey Supreme Court and the directives of the Administrative Office of the Courts.
Bernards Township Municipal Court has a Spanish interpreter available on court days.
The Legislature has provided the Municipal Court with jurisdiction generally in the following instances:
Violations of municipal ordinances
Violations of motor vehicle and traffic laws
Disorderly persons offenses and other non-indictable offenses, except where exclusive jurisdiction is granted to the Superior Court
Defined indictable offenses where indictment and jury trial are waived
Defined indictable offenses remanded by the Somerset County Prosecutor
Violations of State Fish and Game laws
Violations of Weights and Measures laws

What are your office hours and when is Municipal Court held?
A:
Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Our court sessions are every Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.
