Certificate of Occupancy

The Township of Bernards does not require the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy on the resale or refinancing of an existing single-family dwelling or commercially zoned building within the Township.

There is a requirement for an inspection from the Fire Prevention Bureau on the resale of any residence or change of occupancy of any residential rental unit. For further information contact the Fire Prevention Bureau at (908) 204-2511.

There is also a requirement for a Certificate of Records Clearance from the Construction Office to assure no open permits exists on the property. This requirement does not include residential rentals. Contact (908) 204-3172 for application information or visit our website www.bernards.org
